dBPowerAMP Conversion Scripts

This set of three scripts enables you to invoke dBpowerAMP from Helium Music Manager's External Applications button to convert music files to:

  • MP3 Lame
  • OggVorbis CLI
  • FLAC

Next the 'health warning':
Due to the current level of scripting support for DMC, the codecs require that the windows registry is altered in order to tell DMC how the conversion should be performed - this is as recommended in the DMC forums. This script has only been tested on Windows XP Professional SP2. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK as no guarantees are given that there will not be problems caused, unlikely though this may be!

To understand how to setup the script just double click the downloaded script and a help panel will be displayed showing you how to set it up.
Note:

  1. These are 3rd party scripts and we cannot guarantee their functionality.
  2. They should be considered to be 'beta' status.
  3. The use of the scripts assumes that you understand how to use dBpowerAMP.

Installation

Simply download and unzip to a directory of your choice.

EAR for Winamp

For a number of years, Winamp has been able to show tag and file information for the file that is currently being played; although the information presented has been quite limited.

EAR for Winamp significantly extends the information that is able to be presented.
When you have EAR enabled in Winamp, information about the file that is currently being played will be shown in Winamp's MiniBrowser window.

EAR renders an HTML page which can contain a lot more tag and file information than Winamp is able to show by default.

EAR uses a template based system (based on XML and XSLT) to render the resulting documents. In addition to the supplied EAR templates you can easily add your own.
This means that you can modify or build your own EAR templates containing the information that you are interested in, presented in the way you prefer!

Ear supports tags/files in the following formats:

MP3:

id3 v1.x, id3 v2.2, id3 v2.3, id3 v2.4, lyrics3 v2.0 and ape v2

MPEG Plus (mpc/mp+):

id3 v1.x, ape v2

Ogg Vorbis:

Vorbis Comments

FLAC(lossless):

Vorbis Comments

WMA:

WMA/ASF tags

Monkeys Audio(lossless):

ape v2 and id3 v1.x

iTunes/iPod (m4a/m4p):

iTunes/Quicktime tags

Nero AAC (mp4):

iTunes/Quicktime tags

For optimal results, we recommend that you use Helium Music Manager to adjust the tags on your music files.

Bonus features

EAR can do much more than just display data from your tags!
From EAR's system-tray icon you can access the following functions:

  • Rate music and synchronize the rating automatically with Helium Music Manager's Database. Give your files a rating between 0-5, including half-ratings like 1.5, 2.5 etc.
  • Locate the current artist in Helium Music Manager's Music Information Browser (requires Helium Music Manager to be installed and started).
  • Locate the current album in Helium Music Manager's Music Information Browser (requires Helium Music Manager to be installed and started).
  • Locate the current genre in Helium Music Manager's Music Information Browser (requires Helium Music Manager to be installed and started).
  • Use data stored in Helium Music Manager's Database to display Artist Pictures, Artist Biographies, Album art and other data.
  • Play, view and navigate in subtracks.

EAR allows you to display the now-playing information on your desktop instead of in Winamp's Mini Browser.
In this specific mode, the information will be rendered into a free-floating window which can have optional transparency.

Download & Installation

To install EAR, simply download the installer from the link above and follow the on-screen instructions.
After EAR is installed you must configure Winamp as follows (this only needs to be done once):

  1. Open Winamp preferences (CTRL+P)
  2. Select "General Preferences"
  3. In Internet Connection Types, select "Not connected to the Internet"
  4. Show the Media Library (ALT+L), if not already shown
  5. Select and Right-click "Now Playing"
  6. Enable both options

EAR key features

  • Completely free and without any ads/spyware!
  • It's small
  • Support for a variety of the most popular music formats including MP3, iTunes/iPod, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, WMA
  • Presentation of the most common tag formats such as id3 v1.x, id3 v2.x, lyrics3 v2, ape2, iTunes/iPod, WMA, Vorbis Comments (Ogg Vorbis, FLAC)

Now Playing and Summary guide

This documentation describes how you can create your own Now Playing and Summary templates for Helium Music Manager 2006.

Creating templates requires a good knowledge of HTML/CSS and some knowledge of XSLT and XML (especially if you would like to create completely different structures to the default structures).

The documentation is in PDF format.

Portable Music Information Browser

The Portable Music Information Browser is a small application which offers you almost all browsing capabilities from the Music Information Browser in Helium Music Manager.
The Portable Music Information Browser is small and requires no installation. It does not require Helium Music Manager to be installed on the target machine and therefore it is useful for portable systems.
For example, simply put the Portable Music Information browser on a USB-memory together with your database, insert the USB-memory into another machine (optionally without Helium Music Manager installed), start the Portable Music Information Browser and explore your collection just as on your own machine in Helium Music Manager.

Note:
The Portable Music Information Browser works only with Microsoft Access databases at the moment.

Download & Installation

Simply download the Portable Music Information Browser by clicking the Download button below. You don't need to install this application, just make sure that you unpack so that the internal folder-structure is recreated.

MSXML v4.0 and the most recent versions of MDAC and JET are required at the target machine.
